The spate of insecurity in Delta state, especially the state capital territory, has risen phenomenally. In large measure, we have seen the closing up of the three major towns of Asaba, Okpanam and Ibusa into one burgeoning city, with buildings springing up in all corners. But, this has not come without a price, insecurity!

The IPOB militia, which is described by people, as having crippled the economies of the South East, is beginning to gain grounds in Delta state, especially the. State capital territory. Some satellite communities within the capital territory are begging to be forced into lockdown on Mondays to observe the weekly sit at home. Has this always been the case?
Chief Cassidy Iloba with Asaba Community Vigilante had shown pro-activeness in dealing with the attendant insecurity ~ Okey Osakwe
Mr Okey Osakwe in an interactive session with NigeriaOnline24, posited that the insecurity development is worrisome and taking a dangerous direction. He attributed it in large extent to the decline in proactive security measures, that was prevalent in the last administration. Delta state was proactive in matters of security,” he said.

” The threat to security of people and properties in Asaba and it’s environ has always been there since Asaba became the state capital. However, the elevated insecurities in the South East forced people to move into Delta state capital territory. More noticeably, the same culture of insecurity is being seen to come from across the Niger, though quite unsuccessfully.”
“Chief Cassidy Iloba with Asaba Community Vigilante had shown pro-activeness in dealing with the attendant menace of insecurity.
In the last few years, we have seen how he, in the government of Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, supervised the demolition of hideouts and shanties at the bridgehead. We have seen clips of him and security agents in bushes around Delta state, attending to the criminal herdsmen clashes with farmers and communities, proactively.”

“What has happened with that their proactive approach, I don’t know. But it cannot be said to be active, if what is happening in Okpanam and Ugbolu is anything to go by.
I learned that killings are happening in those communities, in an attempt to force people to sit at home. While the killer herdsmen colluding with some community people are resuming hostilities that has attracted the military interventions. I believe something has to be done to forestall turning Delta state to a security nightmare, like is prevalent in some places in Nigeria. “
