YOUTHS of Nsukwa Clan, Aniocha South Local Government Area, Delta State, yesterday, stormed the entrance of the State Government House, Asaba, protesting the alleged marginalisation of the clan in the power sharing arrangement in the council area.

Gathered under the aegis of Concerned Nsukwa Clan Youths, the placard carrying protesters appealed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to zone the Chairmanship position of Aniocha South to the Clan in the forthcoming local elections in the State.

“It will be callous and unconscionable of any system to reward failure at the expense of excellence.”

Speaking during the protest, a youth leader, Mr. Victor Bigwa said it was morally justifiable for Nsukwa Clan to occupy the local government Chairmanship seat.

He said: “Right now, the political equation of Aniocha South LGA, is that Ogwashi-Uku is occupying the House of Assembly position, the Ubulu Clan is occupying the Commissionership position, so it is just and morally justifiable that the coming position of local government chairmanship position should be zoned to Nsukwa clan.”

Meanwhile, the youths, in a letter addressed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, lamented the ill treatment meted to Nsukwa clan.

The letter signed by Victor Bigwa, Okofu Samuel and other, said:
“Aniocha South Local Government Area with headquarters at Ogwashi-Uku is sitting on a tripod of three clans, namely Ogwashi-Uku clan, Nsukwa clan and Ubulu clan.

“It is pertinent to inform you Sir, that since the inception of this democratic dispensation, Nsukwa clan has not been fairly treated and represented in terms of power allocation with respect to the three known statutory positions which include, but not limited to the House of Assembly position, chairmanship of the council and commissionership.”

Saying that Nsukwa clan delivered their four wards one hundred percent in the last Gubernatorial/House of Assembly elections, the letter noted that
“It will be callous and unconscionable of any system to reward failure at the expense of excellence.”

The letter urged the Governor to right the wrongs “by ensuring that an Nsukwa clan son becomes the next Council Chairman for equity, justice, fairness and sense of belonging as anything short of this, may stultify our absolute loyalty to the party, as our patience haven been stretched to its elastic limit.”

Addressing the protesters, the Chief of Staff, Government House, Mr. Johnson Erijo said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had assured that there would be no imposition of candidates anywhere in the State.

“It is what the people of Aniocha South want, that is what will be done. There is no cause for alarm. The party will do what is right,” he said
