CAMEROON FORMALLY REJECT VISIT BY FRANCE’S LGBTQ AMBASSADOR TO THE COUNTRY

By Peter Legacy

Cameroon has formally reject a visit by France’s LGBTQ rights ambassador, stressing that homosexuality is criminalized in the country under current laws.

Ambassador Jean-Marc Berthon was due to visit Cameroon from June 27 until July 1 to discuss gender rights.

Gay rights have continued to gain attention in Africa, with most African countries standing up against it. Recently, Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni signed a law prohibiting it’s practice and freedom in Uganda, with a stiff penalty for it’s violent offenders.

In 2013, the Goodluck Jonathan led administration signed the Same-sex Marriage Prohibition Act into law. The law frowns at any form of same sex relationships and stipulates a 14 year jail term for anyone found guilty of commiting the act.

How far and how long will Africa and her leaders sustain the resistance to LGBTQ ?
