Many schools of thought had seen Governor Okowa and his administration as deliberately political in it’s intent and outlook. But one area the Medical doctor turn politician was hyper proactive was in security in the state.
Delta state and, especially the state capital, have been relatively peaceful and that has accounted for the influx of people especially from across the Niger settling in Asaba and it’s environ. Give it to governor Okowa, he has demonstrated political will and tact in ensuring that security is not politicized.
How did he manage to pull off modest serenity when the neighborhood was raging?
It is believed that the governor worked his talk in putting together a purpose driven and effective team that worked and bonded with the security agencies. It was equally observed that he didn’t spare whatever was expedient, resources wise, to ensure the job got done and relative peace ensured.
Another pragmatic approach his team adopted was in ensuring that no room was left for breeding of insurgency and criminality at huge scale.
The team ensured that shanties and hotspots that were likely home grounds for mayhem were effectively destroyed ahead of time. This saw the demolition and relocation of Abraka market, the demolition of shanties by the bridgehead.
The sit at home raging in the southeast couldn’t gain traction in Delta state, despite initial attempts. This was because there was a proactive resistance by the government’s integrated team.
The herdsmen/farmers clash is one area one cannot say was actually wiped out, but it will be expedient to state that it was effectively managed.
In the southeast, which shares a gateway in Delta state, insecurity has been on the rise again. Sit at home that has crippled businesses isn’t showing any sign of abating. Is TEAM DELTA still up to it, or the mojo has gone with Ekwueme?
